  1. 1 · The number to remember

Copper’s traded quote is US dollars per pound on the COMEX HG future. Start there when you compare a headline, a miner, or a wire mill.

  2. 2 · A tonne is the same price

The large per-tonne figure multiplies that pound price by 2,204.62. It is not a second market and it is not the LME settlement.

  3. 3 · The chart is daily closes

The chart plots completed daily closes of the same HG contract. The header can be a later session print than the last bar.

How to Read Today’s Copper Price

Start with US dollars per pound. That is the COMEX HG quote the header shows. Wire, cathode, and concentrate talks often switch to kilograms or tonnes; those numbers on this page are the same print with the unit changed, so they cannot disagree with each other.

A metric tonne is 2,204.62 pounds. Multiply the pound price by that factor and you have the tonne price. London’s official settlement can differ by a few dollars because it is a different contract and a different time. This page does not invent that second print.

The rupee per kilogram is the global kilogram price times today’s dollar–rupee rate. A scrap yard in any city will quote below it once grade and processing are taken out.

Before you use the number

  • Match the unit. A pound quote and a tonne quote are the same metal only after you convert.
  • Match the contract. This page is COMEX HG, not an LME warehouse settlement.
  • Read the timestamp. A closed market holds the last print.
  • Treat rupees as a conversion. They are not a local mill or scrap quote.
  • The last year of HG closes ran from $4.80 on Sep 30, 2025 to $6.80 on Sep 9, 2026.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the copper price today?
The figure at the top of this page is the COMEX copper future, HG, in US dollars per pound. The same print is converted to per kilogram and per metric tonne. It is a global price, not a local scrap-yard or dealer quote.
How is copper priced — per pound, per kg, or per tonne?
COMEX in New York quotes copper in US dollars per pound. One kilogram is 2.20462 pounds, so the per-kg price is the per-pound price multiplied by 2.20462. A metric tonne is 1,000 kilograms. This page applies those conversions to one HG print.
Is the per-tonne copper price an LME quote?
No. The tonne figure is the COMEX pound price converted by unit. The London Metal Exchange publishes its own USD-per-tonne settlement. The two markets usually move together, but this page does not print a separate LME price.
What is COMEX HG copper?
HG is the COMEX copper futures contract. The header is the latest print of that contract when the feed sends one, and the last daily close when it does not. The chart is the daily close history of the same contract.
Why is copper called Dr. Copper?
Copper is used in construction, power grids, electronics, and vehicles, so traders treat the price as a rough read on industrial demand. The nickname is a market saying, not a forecast.
How often does the copper price on this page update?
The header refreshes about once a minute during market hours and holds the last print when the contract is closed. The “Updated” time is the exchange print time when the feed sends one, otherwise the date of the last daily close.
How do I convert copper from per pound to per kg?
Multiply the per-pound price by 2.20462 to get the per-kilogram price. Divide a per-tonne price by 1,000 to get per kilogram. The conversion table on this page already does both from the same COMEX print.
What is the copper price in rupees?
The rupee line multiplies the COMEX per-kilogram price by today’s US dollar to Pakistani rupee rate. It is a currency conversion of the global price, not a Karachi, Lahore, or scrap-market quote.
Why does scrap copper sell below the price shown here?
This page prices the HG future, which tracks refined copper. Scrap — old wire, windings, and tube — is discounted for grade, insulation, and processing. Use the per-kilogram figure as a ceiling, then apply the yard’s grade discount.
Where can I see historical copper prices?
The chart on this page shows daily closes of the COMEX HG future, from one month to five years. The comparison table lines today’s print up against the previous session, one week, one month, and one year when those closes exist.
